George Daniel, Head Coach for Youth Fly Fishing TeamGeorge Daniel, Head Coach for US Youth Fly Fishing Team

George Daniel began fly fishing at age 6 while growing up in Potter County, PA. George has been seen on ESPN and OLN while competing in the Great Outdoor Games and the Fly Fishing Masters and is a certified FFF Fly Casting Instructor. George is currently the Assistant Manager for the State College TCO Fly Shop and is director of education for the store. George resides in Lock Haven, PA with his wife.

George will be featured as a guest speaker at the Elk Expo on September 20th. His seminar will focus on the basic four part cast, common mistakes and how to correct them, along with tips and techniques for fly fishing.

Some of George's accomplishments include:

 Competing in the 2007 World Fly Fishing Championships, Finland,
    where the USA Team finished 6th out of 23 Countries.
 George was among the Coaching Staff for the 2007 Youth World
    FF Championships
 Won the 2007 OLN FF Masters
 Gold Medal-2008 US National Fly Fishing Champion
 Elected to Compete to the 2008 World Fly Fishing Championships
 2008 Head Coach for the US Youth Fly Fishing Team

Nashville recording artist, Jerry Schickling and his band North Country will be performing live on the Main Stage Saturday. Jerry has opened for numerous artists such as Neal McCoy and the Marshall Tucker Band. Elk Education Center
The Elk Education Center activities include the Pennsylvania Elk display of bulls harvested by hunters during the recent elk hunts, a must see! Stop by local guides to have your questions answered regarding Pennsylvania Elk and the hunt.

Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation information and merchandise will be available.

The Elk Conservation District will also be on hand with educational displays and to answer any questions you may have.


Elk License Drawing
The names of the lucky hunters will be drawn at this year's Elk Expo making them eligible to hunt elk in Pennsylvania's majestic Allegheny Mountains. The random drawing, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, will take place at 5:00pm on Saturday Sept. 20, 2008.

The 2008 elk season will take be held Nov. 3-8. This year, hunters will submit applications for one of 45 licenses, of which 17 will be designated for antlered elk and 28 for antlerless elk. Applications will be accepted via mail, drop-off at agency offices and on the agency's website.

All applications must be accompanied by a nonrefundable $10 application fee. Those selected for one of the limited licenses will need to purchase a general hunting license ($20 for residents and $101 for nonresidents), as well as the elk license, which costs $25 for residents and $250 for nonresidents. Online applications will be accepted through "The Outdoor Shop" on the agency's website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) beginning in mid-May.

Outdoor photographer and videographer Freddie McKnight will offer suggestions that will help you take better outdoor photographs. This Central Pennsylvania native has been carrying his camera in the woods for more than 20 years and his photographs have been published in national magazines and web sites. Learn how and where to position yourself in the woods; when the best time is to capture the images you’re looking for; and what the key ingredient is for any outdoor photograph.



Using your Trail Camera

Learning how to use a trail camera is a relative new seminar offering by Freddie McKnight of Working Man Outdoors. This avid hunter has learned on the job as he has used trail cameras extensively over the past few years to capture images of a variety of wildlife in his backyard. An outdoor writer and photographer from Central Pennsylvania, McKnight will share what he has learned about their operation and deployment to gain the maximum advantage from this piece of technology. Aspects covered in this seminar include camera placement, theft prevention, camouflage, film vs. digital, and more.

Archery Deer Hunting:
Dick will be offering Tips and tricks for proper stand placement along with his tried and true game calls for success with Pennsylvania Whitetails.

Fall Turkey Hunting:
With fall quickly upon us it’s the prime time to stop and listen to Dick’s tips and techniques for fall turkey hunting. He will be discussing proper calling techniques to locate and call in turkey and how to set up.

Rusty has been raising white tail deer since 1986. She and her husband, Roger, first began with three deer as family pets. After seeing there was so much interest in them, they decided to sell their collective businesses and start “The Double Diamond Deer Ranch”.

It is a family business and has been in operation since 1990. It is located in Cook Forest. You can pet and feed the deer and learn about their habits. There is also a museum that they recently finished call the “Buck Barn”.

Rusty will be giving a seminar at the Elk Expo to share her experiences of living with deer. She has been giving seminars on deer since 1992. She speaks on what it is like to live with deer. She has spoken to many schools, church groups, hunting clubs and sport show audiences. In the past Rusty has worked for an airline and had her own catering businesses but prefers raising deer. “everyday we learn something new from our deer!”



People’s Choice Photography Contest

Every year photographers submit their photos to the Elk Expo Committee to be chosen as the featured image on the Elk Expo Patch. Again this year, those same photos will be on display and attendees will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite. A “People Choice” award will then be awarded.

The chips will fly again this year during Elk Expo as the ever popular “Chainsaw Carving Demo” will return! This crowd pleaser keeps visitors amazed as simple pine logs turn into amazing bear, elk and other whimsical creatures before their eyes.

The roar of the chainsaws adds to the excitement as local natives entertain the many people watching the display

T & D CarvingsLocal Chainsaw artist, Dawna Ceriani, has been carving for over six years. Influenced by husband Tom’s talent, the Cerianis now carve together at their shop on Route 219 in Brockport, PA titled T & D Carvings. Many hours of hard work and dedication behind the saw have paid off as Dawna mastered the techniques used to create works of art with her saw. Bring your family to see the artists and to watch as they turn a log into a work of art. Other pieces will also be on display.

Chainsaw Carving by Zoë BoniZoë Boni
For the past four years, Zoë has been a full time chainsaw artist traveling, showing and competing in events in the United States, England, and Germany. During down time she works at Appalachian Arts Studio in Ridgway, PA carving inventory and private commissions as well as working with school groups in environmental educational programs.

She is also helps with planning and carrying out an annual event celebrated in February which grew into the largest event of its kind in the world, the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous.

Bucktail Archers Association will host a 3D Archery Shoot on Saturday from 8am – 2pm.
Archers of all ages can complete for cash and prizes.
