Summer just wouldn’t be summer without the thrill of a county
fair to liven things up. Whether it’s the delicious sweet smell
of cotton candy, the fine craftsmanship on a hand-stitched
quilt, or the sparkle and boom of fireworks, county fairs are
fun for everybody in the family. What’s more, county fairs truly
celebrate the best of farm life and country living. They’re
great opportunities for kids to actually see working horses,
dairy and beef cattle, sheep, dairy goats, chickens, rabbits and
even pigs. Real and wonderful experiences they’ll never get from
TV or video games.
Jefferson County Fair
The week-long Jefferson County Fair will feature lots of
livestock exhibits, plus a rodeo, carnival rides and games,
talent contests, horse pull, truck and tractor pull, mud races,
antique machinery displays, and fi ne food concessions. They
will be plenty of musical entertainment too including rock band
Bad Hair Day, the Wrangler Band, Beatles tribute band Day
Tripper, country-western band Country Pride, a tribute to Neil
Diamond by vocalist Chris Denem, and a fiddle playing contest.
The Jefferson County Fair will take place July 16-21 at the
Jefferson County Fairgrounds just north of Brookville. For a

Clarion County Fair
Look for the Victoria Circus at this year’s Clarion County Fair.
The circus is a top family show with state-of-the-art lighting,

sound and costumes. Highlights include a sensational high-wire
act, the Victory Riders’ motorcycle globe of death, and Wally
and his comedy trampoline. The circus will have shows daily
throughout the week.
Musical headlines will be the Poverty Neck Hillbillies. The
group presents a high energy shows filled with country music
that’s honest, heartfelt and fresh with lots of crowd-pleasing
songs. The Hillbillies will be performing on Thursday, July 26
at 7:30 p.m.
Also at the fair, look for lawn mower races,
demolition derby, antique tractor pull, plus party ponies and
farm friends, Lion’s Club bingo, food concessions, livestock,
and home and garden exhibits.
The Clarion County Fair will take place July 22-28 at the
Redbank Valley Municipal Park, 1.5 miles from New Bethlehem, PA
on Rt. 28.
More Fairs
The Elk County Fair will be take place August 7-11 at the Elk
County Fairgrounds just south of St. Marys, PA in Kersey. The
event will feature food, exhibits, amusement rides, musical
bands, demolition derbies, chalk art, clowns and balloon
artists. And the Cameron County Fair will be take place August
5-11 in Emporium, PA. (NOTE: In addition to the fair, you and
your family can go elk watching at Hicks Run just outside of
Emporium.)
